Ladakh Heart Foundation Launches Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening Initiative in Nubra Valley

The Ladakh Heart Foundation has officially launched its Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening Initiative in the Nubra Valley, marking an important step towards improving women's health and preventive healthcare services in remote communities. The program commenced with its first awareness and screening workshop in Chamshen Village.

Cervical and breast cancers are among the leading health concerns affecting women. Early detection through regular screening significantly improves the chances of successful treatment and better health outcomes. However, many women living in remote regions often face barriers to accessing these essential healthcare services.

Recognizing this need, the Ladakh Heart Foundation has initiated this community-based screening program to bring awareness, education, and screening services directly to the villages of Nubra Valley. The initiative aims to encourage women to prioritize preventive healthcare while reducing the burden of late diagnosis.

This project is generously supported by Live to Love International through Naropa Care. We are also deeply grateful to our implementation partners, Dr. Odzer and Dzamo, whose dedication and commitment have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to the community.

The first workshop in Chamshen Village witnessed encouraging participation from local women, who engaged in discussions on women's health, learned about the importance of early detection, and underwent screening in a safe and supportive environment. Their participation reflects the growing awareness and willingness of communities to embrace preventive healthcare.

This marks the beginning of a larger journey. In the coming months, the Ladakh Heart Foundation will continue expanding the program to additional villages across Nubra Valley, ensuring that more women have access to life-saving awareness, screening, and timely referrals when needed.
